As we conclude our sermon series, The Greatest Gift, I find myself in awe of the unsearchable riches of God’s love revealed to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. Over the past few weeks, we’ve explored the purpose of the gift, the presence of the gift, and the promise of the gift. Now, as we prepare to celebrate Christmas, we bring it all together by reflecting on why Jesus truly is The Greatest Gift.
The greatest gift is one that meets our deepest need. For humanity, that need was reconciliation with God. Sin had separated us from Him, but through the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, that barrier has been removed. Romans 6:23 reminds us: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This gift is not something we could ever earn or deserve; it is freely given out of God’s abundant grace and love.
The greatest gift is one that transforms. When we accept Jesus into our lives, we are not the same. The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” Through Christ, we are given new hearts, new hope, and a new identity as children of God.
The greatest gift is one that keeps giving. Jesus doesn’t just offer salvation—He offers Himself. His presence in our lives brings peace in the storms, joy in the trials, and hope for the future. As we grow in our relationship with Him, we experience the fullness of life that He came to bring.
Finally, the greatest gift is eternal. While earthly gifts fade, the gift of Jesus lasts forever. It is a promise of everlasting life with Him, where there will be no more pain, sorrow, or tears. This is the hope we carry with us, not just at Christmas, but every day of the year.
As we celebrate the birth of Christ this Christmas, let us also renew our commitment to share this gift with others. The love of God is too great to keep to ourselves—it is meant to be shared with the world. Invite someone to hear the message of hope, extend kindness to a neighbor, and let the light of Christ shine through your life.
May the greatest gift of all, Jesus Christ, fill your heart and home with His unending peace and joy this season. From our family at Grace Church to yours, Merry Christmas!
With love and blessings,
